In this lesson, you will learn what a gyroscope is, where it is used, and you will assemble an airplane from a Lego EV3 constructor with a mechanical gyroscope.
The gyroscope on the aircraft allows the pilot to accurately determine at what angle and in which direction the flying vessel has leaned, even in conditions of zero visibility.
At the top of the aircraft assembled from Lego EV3, a gyroscope rotor is installed on a fulcrum in the form of a tube. This gyroscope will serve as the artificial horizon. The attitude indicator shows the angle of deviation of the aircraft from the horizontal position.
In order for the artificial horizon you designed to work, you need to spin the rotor, or spinning top, to a high angular velocity.
For this, a multiplier is used – a device with a multi-stage gear train on a large Lego EV3 motor. This transmission increases the speed of rotation of the motor shaft several times.
